Trax

2026

A quick look at Trax.

If you’re anything like me, you have a bunch of live multitracks, stems, drum recordings, and other sets of files sitting around. It’s a pain to create a new Pro Tools session for each, import all the files, and set up routing, just to scrub around and listen.

Trax opens a folder of audio files and plays them all at once. That’s it.

Open that live recording folder you copied off the console flash drive, and each file is loaded in with the same starting point. Basic volume, solo, mute, and pan controls are saved in a hidden file in that directory, so you only have to set it up once. Or don’t — stereo files work just as you’d expect.

Trax is an incredibly handy utility for me, and might be for you too!
